hamlet soliloquy

9.   9.    And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
The Heart-ache, and the thousand Natural shocks
That Flesh is heir to?
      Not to be    (-)

This is an example of death in the sense that the old him would die if he made this choice. That he would become someone else because the old him would not be able to kill his uncle.

The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,     to be    (-)

This describes how we don’t pick our lives, we don’t control everything that happens to us. That you need to deal with it.

1  10.“A sea of trouble”     Shakespeare is saying that “there is too much trouble, that it is like and endless sea”.

He used these words to put an image in your head, to think of that sea being only trouble and how much it really is.

“The whips and scorns of time”    Shakespeare is saying that “time is being tortured, it scorns at the very whip that hits it”

He felt that description would come from the words that he used.

1  11.1) The big issue in hamlets soliloquy is if he kills his uncle, will it change him or would it just be easier to just accept fate and live on in this problem.
2)”to be or not to be” this is saying should I give up or should I just accept everything.
3) These are the only two options that he could make. Kill his uncle or live a life of regret for not doing something. Be poor or live well off.
.  12. 1) The soliloquy is a form of pathos. Being that he uses his emotions in expressing everything he has to do.
2) He uses emotion constantly in his soliloquy to make the audience feel sympathy towards him.
3) He constantly fights between giving up or fight back. This is an example of logos.
4) He has the right to talk with authority because he has lived with the fact that his uncle killed his father and is now married to his mother.
5) Shakespeare has authority over this because he is a master dramatist but he is also a person that makes these stories for drama. It could happen but they are still just fictional.
