Literature analysis #3

Hakeem Olajuwon

The Dream
By Miles Harvey

Topics/Events

1.  This story is about Hakeem Olajuwon. He was a Professional basketball player back in the 1984-2002. He is considered one of the best Centers of all time. He was on the Houston Rockets and Torronto Raptors. He Grew up in Lagos Nigeria. He didnt play basketball from birth. He started in highschool in nigeria. He had been in other sports but later switched to basketball because of his size. But decided to come to america for college and then he got recommended to a coach and it started from there.

He became something by accident and i find that very interesting for all this greatness to be just a whim, Its very motivational.

2.  I feel that the author of this book found that Hakeem Olajuwon was worth writing about. He isnt a super well known person like Shaquille and David Robinson. But was considered one of the best centers of all time. I would find him worthy of having a book written about him.

3.  I kind of just came across the book and when i looked through it a little. I kind of was like " this doesnt look half bad". So i started to read it and before i knew it. it was over.

4.  I couldnt really find this book relatable to my real life just because I dont know anybody that has gone pro and became the best in their division.

People

1.  I feel that the author wrote this book kind of just to write a book. It was very entertaining but i feel like they could have written a bit more if they were really into it. Their tone was more of boring information than really enthusiastic. but then again that is probably better then someone jumping around subjects and not really giving me any information.

2.  There was only one character in the book and that was Hakeem. He is a 6' 10" Nigerian man who is amazing at basketball.I dont think i could write this character in any other way than how he is or is described.

3.  I think the fact that hakeem has come quite a long way to becoming a pro. that is the main reason i find him as a good subject to write about.

More on Character/People

I would go into more detail about the character but this book isnt very long so i couldnt get all of the information about the character. It just tells his story. Its pretty abrupt but i atleast know the story know.

Style

1.  It was more of a journalistic form of writing. it was very informative but it didnt go into too much detail on all the events.

2.  He focused mainly on the events that happened. so this changed the book into an informational book than an actual book. It is still a good read though.

3.  There isnt really a mood that i got from reading this book. like i had said earlier. it is more informational then event oriented.

4.  He was more interested into the subject than the audience. he was very focussed on the facts. more so than describing the events. they kind of just brought up the event and that was it.

5.  He didnt really offer any other resources on the subject. i took it into my own hands to do a little more research about the subject. it was kind of like reviewing everything i read but with a little more depth on everything.
